Fullback Darius Boyd is considered to be the front runner for the Broncos captaincy for 2017.
The Sunday Telegraph reports Boyd is on a shortlist with hooker Andrew McCullough and forward Sam Thaiday.
Brisbane coach Wayne Bennett, who is close with Boyd, is said to be seriously considering the outside back to lead the side after Corey Parker’s retirement this year.
“Yes, Darius is definitely in the running,” Bennett told the Sunday Telegraph.
“We’ll make a call once he returns in early January.”
While various other teams and players have resumed pre-season training already, Boyd has a few weeks off after a successful Four Nations campaign with the Kangaroos.
Boyd went with Bennett to the Dragons and Knights before heading back to Brisbane, where he was named the club’s best and fairest in 2016.
He has overcome serious personal issues and is considered one of the side’s senior players after initially knocking back the chance to captain the club in 2015.
